Expanded Community Services (ECS) is a program designed to provide intensive behavioral and medical support for individuals whose mental health and medical acuity have prevented discharge from a variety of settings. This includes Western State Hospital (WSH), King County Hospitals or correctional facilities.
ECS is for people at risk of being placed in restrictive settings such as hospitals or correctional facilities. Admission to ECS is determined by a Home and Community Services Care Assessment process. Priority is given to the elderly, those experiencing homelessness, and inpatients at state or community hospitals. To qualify, individuals must be struggling withone or more of the following: significant behavioral disturbances, significant medical health problems, frequent or long-term stays in psychiatric hospitals, multiple unsuccessful housing placements and / or difficulty finding a housing placement.

The primary goal of ECS is to ensure successful and long-lasting placement in a community setting for individuals who are struggling, while reducing referrals to hospitals and correctional facilities. SOUND strives to treat our clients with empathy to make them feel safe, seen, heard, validated and empowered.
All services are primarily provided in person at the Adult Family Home where the client resides. Some services may also be provided at a SOUND clinic as appropriate, like medication appointments or groups.
