Crisis Stabilization is an evidence-based, community crisis prevention and intervention service model. This program is funded through the Developmental Disabilities Administration, utilizing state and waiver-based resources.
The Crisis Stabilization Team (CST) supports adults 18 and above, enrolled in the Developmental Disabilities Administration and residing in King County who may be experiencing a mental health, environmental, vocational, or behavioral crisis. People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) experience numerous health disparities, including higher rates of mental health symptoms and behavioral challenges compared to the general population. People with IDD Mental Health (IDD-MH) issues are often misdiagnosed, under-diagnosed, and undiagnosed. Even when diagnosed, there are few evidence-based treatments available, leading to costly and ineffective care, frequent emergency department visits, psychiatric hospitalizations, poorer quality of life, and earlier mortality. The CST aims to address these gaps.
At SOUND, we consider service recipients and their families as our most valued partners. We collaborate closely to tailor our services to meet their unique needs and aspirations. We believe in the power of positive engagement to build capacity, emphasizing the strengths and abilities within each individual and their support network. Our goal is to create a supportive environment that resolves immediate challenges, instills hope, and paves the way for positive change.
Our community-based interventions and prevention services include comprehensive evaluations of historical and current information, as well as a variety of supportive services such as collaborative contacts, after-hour contacts, emergency team meetings, and referrals to both planned and emergency respite. Our approach is characterized by teamwork, empowerment, continuous learning, and compassion. We are dedicated to supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families on their journey toward improved quality of life and well-being. Above all, we approach every interaction with humanity, conducting all activities with compassion, understanding, and kindness, recognizing the dignity and worth of each individual we serve.
The goal is to connect and integrate support and services, creating a system where an individual can thrive and succeed while being understood. Goals consist of strengthening the service system’s ability to successfully engage persons with IDD by focusing on wellness, strengths, improved access to services, identification of system gaps, and improved competencies for stakeholders. The team builds system capacity through outreach, training, and cross-system crisis planning that shares knowledge and resources. Interventions are planned activities that focus on providing expert services to persons enrolled. Supporting these goals is our response to acute crises that occur, despite best efforts to avoid them.
Crisis Stabilization services are available in King, Pierce, and South Snohomish counties.
