SOUND offers crisis services around the clock, every day of the week, through a dedicated crisis team. Both SOUND clients and community members can access SOUND’s crisis line to speak with trained mental health clinicians. These clinicians specialize in providing brief supportive care focused on safety and risk assessment, using present-focused therapeutic interventions, and coordinating care between clients, their teams, and other professionals. Services may include emergency assessments, phone consultations, outreach, emergency medication management, crisis case management, and assistance with hospitalization.
Our crisis line supports anyone who calls, though it is primarily intended for SOUND clients experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. We also support clients of other mental health agencies around King County after hours. If a non-SOUND client calls, we will provide support and guide them to the appropriate resources for future needs.
SOUND clinicians consider emergency departments and inpatient hospitalization as last resorts, only when personal or community safety is at risk or severe disability is imminent. Our crisis care approach includes:
Beyond de-escalation and stabilization, our clinicians collaborate with clients, their treatment teams, and support systems to develop protective factors that can be maintained in their lives.
The primary goal is to treat clients with empathy, ensuring they feel safe, seen, heard, validated, and empowered. We aim to help clients engage their strengths and skills to navigate difficult times effectively.
Our crisis line is available 24/7, serving SOUND clients wherever they are. When more than phone support is needed, the crisis team consults and collaborates with the appropriate treatment team, hospital, or community members to find the best solution for the individual in crisis.
